This 11,5 ton pan skip used two phosphor bronze bushes in the plummer block on the back shaft.
The phosphor bronze bushes, OD 150 mm x ID 100 mm - 220 mm long (OD 6" x ID 4" - 8.7" long) only lasted
approximately six months. They were infrequently greased and tended to grind the shaft, causing shaft wear.
Vesconite bushes were installed and had so little wear after six months that the bushes were reused.
The following benefits will see Vesconite being used in this application in the future:
- Lower cost
- Least maintenance
- Less downtime
- Greatly extended bush life
- Negligible wear to shaft
